Digest

Based on chestnut extract,   Digest   is a useful supplement   for   the   digestion   for   dogs   and   cats.
The tannins obtained from chestnut wood (Castanea sativa), in fact, are of the pyrogallic type, that is, they belong to that category of glycosidic tannins which are easily hydrolysed. The chestnut extract contains a fair amount of acid groups and natural organic acids, which determine its marked astringency.
Taken orally, the tannins reach the intestinal lumen unchanged, where they are transformed by the bacterial flora.

The astringent effect is made possible by the fact that once in contact with the proteins of the digestive mucosa, they make the latter not very permeable. In this way the mucous membrane of the digestive tract is protected from parasites and irritants and reduces secretion.
