The beneficial effect is obtained by taking at least 250 mg of DHA per day. The mother's intake of DHA contributes to normal brain and eye development in the fetus and breastfed infants. In pregnancy and breastfeeding the beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 200 mg of DHA in addition to the daily dose of Omega-3 fatty acids in the adult who is equal to 250 mg of EPA and DHA.
