Jar Of Catnip

The plants of Catnip (Nepeta cataria and other species) are part of the Lamiaceae family, at which also belongs mint and contain volatile oils.
Native to Europe, Asia and Africa, it was imported to North America by colonists; nowadays, the plant is popular in gardens and grows widely like a weed.

Not all cats have the same reactions to the ingestion (by ingestion or inhalation) of the plant; cats can:

• rubbing convulsively;
• purring and meowing;
• rolling and rubbing;
• manifest hyperactivity;
• desire to scratch;
• feel sleepy.
