It is a natural source of hydroxycitric acid, which reduces the synthesis of fatty acids,  lipogenesis and food intake with consequent reduction in body weight. Hydroxycitric acid inhibits the enzyme citrate lyase so as to block the formation of acetylCoa, a substrate used in the liver and other areas for biosynthesis of fatty acids and cholesterol. This leads, among other things, to a reduction in the synthesis of fatty acids and a sense of satiety.
